Monsterrat-Abbey was founded in 1343 as a refuge for the (Rat) survivors of the black plague. The innocent rodents, having been driven off of mainland Europe by overzealous "doctors," sailed for months until discovering the island of Monsterrat.
In the year 1683, Raulie Nonhazred, a failed botanist turned occultist was fired from his post as Portugal's Royal Shipyard deck scrubber and stowed away on the maiden voyage of the newly commissioned ship, "Vanity's Requiem." The maiden voyage of the V.R. was plagued by monsoons, and the hull was eaten by rare sea worm's somewhere in the carribean. Nonhazred, the only survivor of the voyage washed ashore the southern beach of Monsterrat and was taken in by the Rat horde of Monsterrat-Abbey. Raulie took advantage of the suspicously large library on the island and became the resident scholar of the Abbey until his death at the ripe old age of 129. Unclle Raulie, as he became known to the rats still resides in a post corporal form only to torment visitors. All that remains of his once charming physique is a skull which manages a wispy curse from time to time.
At some point in the mid 1900's a cargo ship packed with the latest in audio recording equipment made a hasty delivery to the island. The delivery is rumored to have been intended for a different island in the Caribbean, but much to the chagrin of the intended recipients a young Ratboy became fascinated by the bright lights and loud beeps. The rat elders never reported the incident to any relevant authority. Thus after nearly, 800 years the music studio of Monsterrat-Abbey was born - ready to capture the raucous sounds of the 21st century.
The tithing bowl will come around soon enough. Just you wait.
